Experts gather in Shrewsbury to create lasting legacy for peatlands

Shrewsbury is to play host to the UK’s largest gathering of peatland experts at the annual IUCN UK Peatland Programme Conference this week. Post-Brexit discussions will set the future for our environment and the conference provides an important reminder of the many valuable services that nature provides.
Scientists, conservationists, land managers and policy-makers will come together for three days of talks, discussions and field trips to explore how our generation can be the one that creates a lasting legacy for healthy peatlands.
Cumbria BogLIFE: Restoring Peatlands - The Development of Best Practice Techniques

One requirement for LIFE nature projects is to share experience and knowledge and many include a requirement to host a mid-project event. Cumbria BogLIFE held a mid-project conference during the first week of October and based it around ‘Restoring Peatlands – The Development of Best Practice Techniques’. The main aim of the conference was clear from the very start; to demonstrate many of the practical peatland restoration techniques that had been developed over the last 30 years both in Cumbria and throughout the UK and Europe.
Forsinard Flows Field Centre is Now Open

The Flow Country is an area of deep peat and bog pools, located in the Caithness and Sutherland peatlands. The Flows to the Future Project, the Peatlands Partnership and RSPB Scotland at Forsinard Flows National Nature Reserve are working together to restore and protect this important landscape.
Interpretation Panels Installed at Glenshee Ski Centre

Two interpretation panels were recently installed at the entrance to the Glenshee Ski Centre’s Base Café. The café is just off the main Braemar to Perth road (the A93) and is the UK’s highest A road at 665m. This is a popular all year round attraction and the A0 panels are clearly visible as you enter the café.
£400,000 to help restore Scotland’s peatlands

A £400,000 investment in peatlands will help reduce emissions and allow Scotland to build on its ambitious climate change plans, the Climate Change Secretary has said.
Snap up a top prize in Moors for the Future photo competition

Amateur photographers are being encouraged to enter a national photography competition to be in with a chance of winning a digital camera or a high resolution bird box camera system.
The competition is organised by the Community Science team at the Moors for the Future Partnership in the Peak District National Park.
This year the theme is 'Water in the Uplands' and entries are invited in two categories: Adults, and age 15 or under.
