Burns Bog Conservation Society Petitions Federal Government

The Burns Bog Conservation Society launched its petition today asking the Federal Government to enforce the Species at Risk Act legislation on boglands owned by MK Delta Lands Group and the Beedie Group (Pineland Peat).
Wings in motion for conservation works in 2018

The Moors for the Future Partnership's conservation team is gearing up for a busy New Year, as works are set to get underway on the ground across the South Pennine Moors Special Area of Conservation, before the start of the breeding bird season in March.
Members of the team have spent the last few weeks engaging closely with partners, land owners and managers to set up surveys and discuss upcoming conservation work.

New Peatland Outreach Project from Bog Squad

At the beginning of September this year Butterfly Conservation Scotland launched the new Peatlands for People Project, which is part of the ongoing Bog Squad Project, funded by Peatland Action. It involves community engagement and outreach work to raise awareness about the importance of peatland habitats, and the butterflies and moths that are found there, at sites across Scotland.

Snow Progress in the Cairngorms

The early advent of winter in mid-November brought three restoration projects in the Cairngorms to a halt and prevented another four projects from starting. Work was progressing well on Invercauld Estate and RSPB Abernethy, documented in an interview by Euan McIlwraith from Radio Scotland Out of Doors on 22 November. Then, that afternoon snow came in and the hills have remained covered. All projects are now on hold with contractors taking machines off the hill - the last to do so was Highland Conservation from An Lurg on Abernethy.
