British uplands photographic competition winners announced

Family adventures and a 5000 foot selfie top the judge’s list Moors for the Future Partnership have announced the winners of their 2018 photo competition. The winning images showcase Britain’s upland landscapes – including mountains, moorlands and bogs – and feature people having some amazing adventures.

How the Yorkshire iCASP is supporting partners tackling flooding and peatland restoration

Healthy peatland can play an important role in both flood risk reduction and carbon storage. This was the take home message for two Yorkshire MPs who took part in an event organised by IUCN UK Peat Programme (IUCN UK PP) in Bishopdale, which demonstrated work on natural flood management and peat restoration.

The Yorkshire Peat Partnership adds two new UAVs to its fleet

Since 2012, the Yorkshire Peat Partnership has been using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to survey degraded blanket bog across the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks, and Nidderdale AONB. This technology has enabled the partnership to survey and monitor blanket bogs in unprecedented detail.

Pathway to Healthy Peatlands Set out in UK Peatland Strategy

The UK’s first collaborative Peatland Strategy has been launched today, setting out a shared vision for a brighter future for our vital, but damaged peatlands. In developing the strategy, the IUCN UK Peatland Programme has involved stakeholders from across Government, third sector, scientific and land managing communities. All are coming together to celebrate this momentous step forward in the conservation of UK peatlands and to discuss implementation of the strategy to bring about positive change at an event in York.
