Workshop: Shared Values and Management Pathways for the Peak District’s Peatlands

Shared Values and Management Pathways for the Peak District’s Peatlands

Join the UKRI Greenhouse Gas Peat project (funded by UKRI) for an interactive evening workshop focused on the future of the Peak District’s upland peatlands. Bringing together farmers, landowners, researchers, policymakers, and local voices, this session will explore how we can collaboratively shape sustainable and climate-conscious management strategies for peatland landscapes.

Location

The Globe Glossop, 144 High Street West, Glossop, SK13 8HJ.

Time

21st May, 2025 - 16:00 - 21:00 BST

Dinner included – please inform us of any dietary requirements in advance.

Workshop activities

Together, we will:
🌱 Identify the values and perspectives that influence peatland decision-making
🧪 Examine innovative technologies being trialled at Featherbed Moss by the UKRI GGR Peat project – including biochar and sphagnum plugging – and discuss their future potential
🌍 Co-design feasible and socially acceptable pathways for reducing and removing greenhouse gases
🔧 Tackle the practical and policy barriers to implementation and explore how to overcome them

Who should attend?
This workshop welcomes anyone with a stake in upland peatlands – from private and institutional landowners, farmers, and tenants to conservation groups, utility providers, local authorities, and community organisations.

What you’ll contribute:
Your insights will directly inform recommendations for policy and practice that aim to maximise the climate benefits of peatlands while recognising the needs of farming, conservation, and rural communities.
