UK Peat update and Overview of the Peatland Code 6th October 2020 at 10.00 - 11:00 (BST)
Clifton Bain, Director of the International Union for the Conservation on Nature (IUCN) UK Peatland Programme provides an overview of the Peatland Code – an innovative funding mechanism for peatland restoration. The Peatland Code is part of the new toolkit to help businesses invest in natural solutions to the environmental crises of climate change and biodiversity, helping the UK’s green recovery.
This session will discuss how the Peatland Code can work for everyone involved:
- Carbon buyers have reassurance that they have facilitated a responsible scheme, which will result in additional climate benefits
- Projects have recognised procedures and standards to work to, and can use their validated/verified status as a means to market the carbon benefits to potential buyers
- Society will benefit from enhanced climate mitigation and the restoration of the natural landscape.
