Exploring the Future of Lowland Agricultural Peat 2025 Conference

Fenland SOIL is preparing for its second conference ‘Exploring the Future of Lowland Agricultural Peat – Addressing the Practical Challenges’ which will be held at the Maltings, Ely, on the 28th and 29th January. Please do help us spread the word by sharing with your networks!

Our 2023 conference was an incredible success, with more than 240 delegates from more than 100 organisations in attendance, and even got a mention in Tom Heap’s new book ‘Land Smart’! You can book your ticket for the conference here.

We plan to build on the success and momentum generated by the 2023 Conference to move on from talking about the challenges with Lowland Peat and work towards finding a solution for some of these challenges.

Invitation to submit abstracts

We would like to invite you to submit an abstract for both oral and poster presentations fitting into one of the six conference themes:

  1. Future Scenarios and Climate in the Fens
  2. How do we change the way we manage water on Lowland Peat?
  3. We need to talk about regen - what does sustainable farming look like on lowland peat?
  4. Systems Thinking - An integrated approach to manage lowland agricultural peat landscapes
  5. Governance and stakeholder engagement on lowland agricultural peat
  6. Economics and Finance - how do we make sustainable farming viable?

Please Contact the Fenland SOIL team (administration@fenlandsoil.org) by no later than 8th November to submit an abstract to the panel.

Please note: Abstracts will only be considered if they meet the following criteria:
• Length: Maximum of 300 words
• Keywords: Up to 10 descriptive keywords must be included
• Details: Lead author’s organisation and email details must be included

Focus the weight of the abstract on the content of your presentation and not the background and context.
In the interest of fairness, all abstracts will be blind reviewed. Please do not include your name, institution or other identifying characteristics in the 300-word abstract.
Poster presenters will be expected to be available at their posters during the designated poster view times during the conference.

If you are currently working on your project and will be collecting results later in the year, you can still submit now and have the chance to amend your presentation closer to the conference if it is selected.

Please note we are only able to accommodate A1 PORTRAIT format poster. Submission of a poster will not guarantee its display in the venue, however we will be able to circulate all posters in the post conference communications.

We hope you will be able to join us for a fantastic 2 days of networking and knowledge sharing and look forward to receiving your extracts.
