Case Study: Chippenham Fen hydrological re-naturalisation project

The latest webinar hosted by the Fens East Peat Partnership (FEPP) and Natural England will provide an overview of the hydrological scheme implemented at Chippenham Fen NNR to protect existing peat and restore peat forming conditions.

Chris Hainsworth, Senior Reserve Manager (Natural England) at Chippenham Fen National Nature Reserve presents an overview of the hydrological groundworks, funded via the Nature for Climate Peatland Grant Scheme, which took place during autumn 2024. The aim in altering the site’s hydrological function is to help protect existing peat and restore conditions suitable for peat formation. Chris describes the background thinking, options selected and challenges in implementing the scheme.
