The Moors for the Future Partnership is planting more than 640,000 sphagnum plug plants across the Peak District National Park and South Pennines throughout March.
The mosses will be planted across 11 sites, covering catchment areas of Severn Trent Water, Yorkshire Water and United Utilities; an area equivalent to more than 720 football pitches!
Staff, volunteers and colleagues from partner organisations will be involved in the process, with each team member planting approximately 1,000 plugs each per day.
sphagnum moss has amazing qualities including absorbing water to reduce the risk of flooding in local communities.
