The Exmoor Mires team spent seven days down on Bodmin Moor restoring a 55 ha transistion mire, Crowdy Marsh.
The weather threw everything at them... rain, snow, rain, hail, rain, thunder, rain, a little bit of sunshine (which is when the cameras came out) and a lot more rain. But, the team and contractors still did an amazing job and got the work completed ahead of schedule!
The land is owned by South West Water and is designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and part of the North Bodmin Moor SSSI. The works start the process of getting the site back into 'favourable condition'. Along with contractors, GRT Countryside Care Ltd, the works were also subcontracted to CJ Gray Ltd. This enabled the proejct to bring in a 15 tonne amphibious excavator - usually found floating about dredging ponds - in order to get to and track across parts of the site that were incredibly wet.
