The Cumbria Flood Action Plan, recently released by Rory Stewart MP, recognises the importance of upland catchment management in controlling water further downstream.
Within the plan is a commitment to "survey six high prority peatland sites and secure funding to restore 350 hectares of peatland to hold water upstream for longer".
This work will be undertaken by the Cumbria Peatland Partnership, which is administered by the Cumbria Wildlife Trust.
