Over 20 years ago, drains were blocked using a variety of materials at an area of industrial peat cutting on Cuilcagh Mountain. This peatland restoration project was innovative for its time and the area is unrecognisable today - what was once bare peat is now covered in vegetation.
However, can we really say the blanket bog has 'recovered'?
As part of this event the organisations will be sharing what they have learned from reviewing the recovery in the area of Cuilcagh Mountain, exploring the successes and shortcomings of the restoration methods used, and what further work is recommended to improve the hydrological function and condition of the area.
